The latest updates and developments for AstroMat, including collaborations with MetBase and OSIRIS-REx, will be presented at the 85th Annual Meeting of The Meteoritical Society, in Glasgow, Scotland taking place August 14-19, 2022.

Several talks are scheduled in the CURATION, EDUCATION AND OUTREACH session on Wednesday August 17, 2022. This session covers a variety of presentations concerning the physical and digital curation of meteorites and samples returned from exploration missions to the Moon and asteroids. The Future of Cosmochemical Databases: MetBase and the Astromaterials Data System (ASTROMAT) Started a Common Future [#6409]
MetBase and Astromaterials are two of the largest meteorite and planetary materials databases worldwide. We started a project that will in its first part align MetBase with Astromaterials, and in the second part merge MetBase with Astromaterials.

Achieving Long-Term Data Archiving Goals for OSIRIS-REx Sample Analysis Through Coordinated Efforts with AstroMat [#6498]
The OSIRIS-REx team is updating the mission’s data management plan to include a path forward for sample analysis data archiving in coordination with the Astromaterials Data System (AstroMat).

MetSoc 2022 AstroMat Presentations

In June 2022, our AstroMat team had the opportunity to present two talks at the hybrid Planetary Science Informatics and Data Analytics Conference (PSIDA 2022).

Juan David Figueroa, AstroMat Application Developer, gave the talk entitled: “Maintaining Microservices: Applications for the Astromaterials Data System”. Figueroa showcased the development of AstroMat’s micro-service architecture that prioritizes users and community members.

AstroMat Systems Engineer, Peng Ji, spoke on “The Astromat Synthesis: a data pipeline to generate analysis ready data following FAIR principles“. Ji highlighted the latest developments for the AstroMat synthesis database analysis-ready data following the FAIR principles.

AstroMat at PSIDA

Two AstroMat-focused presentations are on the program at the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2022. The hybrid meeting takes place May 23–27, 2022.

Select OSIRIS-REx Sample Data Now Available in Astromaterials Data Archive

Data from the initial analyses of asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS-REx Sample Analysis Team are now available in the Astromaterials Data Archive (ADA). Approximately 100 datasets are now accessible to download out of the ~500 datasets received to date. As future OREx publications are released, the associated datasets in ADA will be made publicly accessible.

Our team is planning a series of webinars starting Fall 2024 on archiving your data and accessing data through Astromat. Stay tuned here for the dates and registration information. Astromaterials Data System August 2024 Update

Join us for a collaborative workshop in conjunction with MetSoc24 on the evening of July 29th. This workshop is free and open to all that are interested in or work with astromaterials sample data, including meteorites. Dinner and drinks will be provided.

Time: ~5:30 PM – 9:00 PM (starting after MetSoc sessions end)

Location: The Hotel Brussels, 26th floor “MEET 26 THREE”, Boulevard de Waterloo 38, 1000 Brussels
