Several AstroMat team members will travel to the University of Arizona in Tucson next week to present at the Astromaterials Data Management in the Era of Sample-Return Missions Community Workshop. On Monday, Nov. 8th, AstroMat PI, Dr. Kerstin Lehnert, will give the invited keynote presentation in the Vision and Concepts for Astromaterials Data Archiving session. Later in that session, Sarah Ramdeen will present on FAIR Samples for Open Astromaterials Science. In the Current Archive/Repositories session, Lucy Profeta will speak about The Astromaterials Data System: Advancing Access and Preservation of Past, Present, and Future Lab Analytical Data of NASA’S Astromaterials Collections. Monday afternoon, Alexandra Ostroverkhova will give the talk Astromaterial Databases from Two Perspectives: User and Curator | Lessons Learned from the Current State of Meteorite Data Reporting and Database Curation in the Lessons Learned from Decades of Sample Analysis session.

AstroMat presentations at Astromaterials Data Management in the Era of Sample-Return Missions Community Workshop

The AstroMat team just updated AstroDB so it now contains over 3000 references. Use the AstroSearch app or bibliography to download and explore geochemical references and datasets.

Update to AstroMat Database

Group IAB, currently with 264 members, is the second largest iron-meteorite group and the largest non-magmatic iron group. Many of its members contain silicates and all have been modeled to have crystallized from impact melt pools on chondrite parent bodies. The UCLA team, under the direction of John Wasson, analyzed more than 220 IAB irons over five decades using neutron activation analysis. Most of the data were published in six journal papers. The UCLA team works with AstroMat to make these data available online in the form of both downloadable datasheets and interactive tables. Group IAB is part of an ongoing effort to archive the UCLA iron meteorite data. Data for other iron meteorite groups will be made available on AstroMat in the coming months.

Select OSIRIS-REx Sample Data Now Available in Astromaterials Data Archive

Data from the initial analyses of asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS-REx Sample Analysis Team are now available in the Astromaterials Data Archive (ADA). Approximately 100 datasets are now accessible to download out of the ~500 datasets received to date. As future OREx publications are released, the associated datasets in ADA will be made publicly accessible.
